Scripture: Haggai 2:1-9

Introduction:

The book of Haggai, a minor prophet in the Old Testament, speaks to a people facing significant challenges. They had returned from exile in Babylon, rebuilding the temple, yet their enthusiasm had waned. Haggai’s message is a call to action, a reminder of God’s promises and the need for renewed commitment. Today, we too face challenges, and Haggai’s words offer valuable guidance.

I. Be Strong (Haggai 2:1-2)

Haggai begins by addressing the people’s lack of motivation. He challenges them to “Be strong” and “take heart,” reminding them of God’s presence and His commitment to the rebuilding project. In our lives, we may encounter setbacks and discouragement. Haggai’s message is a reminder that we are not alone. God is with us, strengthening us and providing the courage we need to persevere.

II. Work Hard (Haggai 2:3-4)

Haggai then calls the people to action. He tells them to “consider their ways” and “work hard,” emphasizing the importance of diligent effort in fulfilling God’s purpose. In our own lives, we are called to be active participants in God’s work. Whether it’s serving our community, pursuing our passions, or simply fulfilling our daily responsibilities, we are to do so with diligence and commitment.

III. Fear Not (Haggai 2:5-9)

Haggai concludes his message by addressing the people’s fears. He assures them that God’s glory will fill the temple and that the nations will desire to serve the Lord. In our own lives, we may face uncertainty and anxiety. Haggai’s message is a reminder that God is in control and that His plans for us are ultimately good. We are called to trust in Him, even when we cannot see the full picture.
