In Mark 12:35-37, Jesus challenges the common understanding of the Messiah as simply a descendant of King David. He asks how the scribes, religious scholars, can say the Messiah is just David’s son. Jesus then quotes Psalm 110, where King David refers to the Messiah as his “Lord.” This creates a paradox: if the Messiah is David’s son, how can he also be his Lord? The passage ends with the crowd listening to Jesus with delight, as he challenges traditional interpretations.
