OUR HEARTS BEAT THE SOUND OF LIFE IN US

What kind of life do you live?

According to the Bible, every part of our lives have been affected by “The Fall” and our once good and perfect lives have suffered at the hands of our great enemy, Satan. Consequently we now find ourselves struggling with all kinds of health issues, including mental health, simply because we are not who we were created to be.

Jesus came to “set prisoners free” and in doing so has given us the power to face our mental health struggles. There is no quick fix to our emotional challenges but God has provided a way in which we can have hope: “I will give you a new heart and a new spirit within you”.

PRINCIPLES

> All emotions are attached to a belief about God, myself or others.

> God created me, in His image, to have healthy, Christ-like emotions.

> All emotions are real, but not all emotions are Christ-like, therefore not all emotions are healthy.

> Every unhealthy emotion is a result of The Fall and therefore not Christ-like.

> My emotions have been redeemed by Christ living in me, bringing about Christ-like emotions

SERMONS & MID WEEK RESOURCES

WEEK 1 (BEATING HEARTS WHEN LIFE IS BROKEN)

Emotional health is God’s design as we reflect the image of God. God promises to redeem our emotions by giving us a new heart and a new Spirit. The new heart is the place of God’s richest intentions: Joy, Happiness, Calm, Contentment and Gratitude.

WEEK 2 (BEATING HEARTS WHEN LIFE IS UNCERTAIN)

There is an uncertainty about life. What will happen? When it will happen? How it will happen? These questions are the root of many of our struggles with anxiety, and stress. God promises to redeem our uncertainty when we choose to follow Christ in relationship – our fears still exist but now we have courage because God is with us. For the most fearful people, God says “I will be with you”.

WEEK 3 (BEATING HEARTS WHEN LIFE IS VULNERABLE)

The Bible reminds us that we’re made in the image of God, who is a Trinity. He has always lived in vulnerability and we are created in His image to be vulnerable. The problem occurs when, due to the Fall, we hid behind “fig leaves” (a different version of ourselves) so that we can look better than we actually are. We do this, not because of being vulnerable, but because of the fear of exposure. In this study we unpack what it means to be vulnerable and the issues of fear and exposure.

WEEK 4 (BEATING HEARTS WHEN LIFE IS DISCONTENT)

What is contentment and discontentment? How does this affect depression and joy? How do you rekindle the joy of being content? This sermon tackles the question of being discontent and how it affects our identity and joy

WEEK 5 (BEATING HEARTS WHEN RELATIONSHIPS ARE BROKEN)

Pursuing relational reconciliation reflects the life of Christ. If I have a new heart and spirit my aim will be to be a peacemaker

WEEK 6 (BEATING HEARTS WHEN LIFE LACKS PURPOSE)

Ever find yourself asking “Why Bother?”. In today’s sermon we looked at this question and the very difficult issue of Shame: Mental Health, The Bible and Living the Christian Life.

WEEK 7 (BEATING HEARTS WHEN SELF LACKS WORTH)

Where perfectionism exists, a destructive and addictive belief system fuels the primary thought that if I can look perfect, live perfectly and work perfectly, I can avoid the painful feelings of shame, judgement and blame

WEEK 8 (BEATING HEARTS WHEN LIFE IS DISAPPOINTING)

To live without regret is to believe we have nothing to learn, no amends to make, and no opportunity for transformation.
