Growing in Christ – Hidden

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

1 Corinthians 15:22

Foundational to our walk with Christ is our identity in Christ. Understanding who you are as a Christian will go a long way in helping you grow as a Christian.

Paul says in the text that I’ve quoted above, that the result of Adam’s failure was death for everyone. In other words, Anything that Adam did was counted as you disobedience. His sin was your sin and his punishment became your punishment because “in Adam all die”. But the result of Jesus’ victory was life for everyone. In the same way that God counted Adam’s failures as yours, He counted Christ’s victory as yours. When Jesus died, God counted your sins as His and his suffering as yours. In fact, God even counted Christ’s death as your death; he counted Christ’s burial as your burial; and Christ’s resurrection as your resurrection and finally Christ’s ascension to heaven as your ascension to heaven which is why Paul says:

[God has] raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Ephesians 2:6

Wait, it gets better … now, all of Christ’s blessings are also your blessings, and His benefits are your benefits.

Paul says:

For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin

Romans 6:5-6

In fact, Paul continually brings this idea of “Hidden in Christ” out in his New Testament letters:

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:3

For those who have turned from their sin and are following Jesus this is great news but it highlights are complete dependency on Him. He said:

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

The most dangerous thing in the world is to try to live without God.

Being hidden in Christ means that you are dependent on Him for life and health. This is your identity: Hidden in Him. This is true. Preach it to yourself daily: You are in Christ and all that is His is yours.
